Just this month, the final major hurdle for non-Tesla owners was cleared. Stellantis (the parent company of Jeep, Dodge, Ram, and Maserati) officially gained access to the network.

  • Who can charge? Almost everyone. Ford, Rivian, GM, Volvo, Mercedes, Hyundai, and now Stellantis vehicles can all plug into the 27,500+ Superchargers across North America.

  • The Catch: While 2026/2027 models are starting to ship with native NACS (J3400) ports, older EVs still need an adapter. Official adapters typically cost around $230–$250.

🚀 The Rise of "True" V4 Supercharging

Tesla has officially ended production of the older V3 cabinets. Every new station being built today is V4 hardware, which brings some massive technical upgrades:

  • 500 kW Speeds: While most current cars can't handle it yet, V4 stations are future-proofed to deliver up to 500 kW for passenger cars and 1.2 MW for the Tesla Semi.

  • 1000V Architecture: This is huge for owners of Porsche Taycans, Hyundai Ioniq 6s, or Cybertrucks. These high-voltage batteries can finally charge at their maximum potential without being throttled by the charger.

  • Longer Cables: No more "parking sideways" or blocking two stalls. V4 cables are longer and mounted higher to reach charging ports located on any corner of a vehicle.

💰 The Price of a Plug-In

Charging isn't as cheap as it was three years ago, but it remains cheaper than gas in most states.

  • Live Pricing: Tesla has rolled out "Live Pricing" to over 550 sites. Instead of static peak/off-peak hours, prices now fluctuate in real-time based on how busy the station is.

  • Average Costs: Expect to pay between $0.30 and $0.45 per kWh at most sites. If you’re at a high-demand urban hub during rush hour, you might see spikes up to $0.60.

  • The "Non-Tesla Tax": If you don't drive a Tesla, you’ll generally pay a higher per-kWh rate unless you subscribe to a monthly Supercharging Membership (usually around $12.99/month).

📍 The "Superhub" Future

Construction has begun on the world's largest Supercharger site—a massive 400-stall "Superhub" designed to handle the massive influx of non-Tesla EVs. Think less "gas station" and more "airport terminal," featuring lounges, food, and massive solar canopies.


Pro Tip: If you're driving a non-Tesla EV, download the Tesla App before your trip. You’ll need it to initiate the charge and find "Magic Dock" locations that have built-in adapters if you don't own one.
